Whilst the Charity is pleased to be in a position to have helped a record number of people in the past year, rising numbers of requests for assistance in fact cause us great concern. The increasing numbers of beneficiaries we serve highlights the unique dangers and difficulties which fire fighters and their families continue to face. Sadly, due to the nature of the profession, many future generations of fire service personnel will face similar problems, and we hope to be here for them, to continue to provide 'the cure'. However, the Charity is now keen to use our burgeoning profile to good effect, by also focusing on prevention.
As a national charity, we have a unique opportunity to become a positive, apolitical voice for fire safety. Any contribution which we can make to this area will be a positive one, and we maintain that if we can save just one fire fighter from death or serious injury as a result of our campaigning, then we will have succeeded.
In November 2008 the Charity held it's first major activity in this area - the National Schools Fire Safety Day with the theme 'Plan a Safe Escape'. The campaign is now in its third year, and the 2010 National Schools' Fire Safety Week will take place from 4th - 8th October focusing on 'Matches & Lighters, Tools not Toys'.
